Hand your AI-built app to engineers, then launch it.
Handovers usually stall on the same things: missing account access, unclear launch requirements and nobody knowing which parts already work. This kit has a handoff spec to fill in before an engineer starts, and a week-by-week plan for launching a small, focused app in 30 days.
The handoff spec
What it is
- One paragraph on what the app does and who it is for
- The main user journey, step by step, from sign-up to the thing users came for
- Which AI tool(s) you used and where the code lives now
Access & assets
- The code repository, or an export of it
- Access to the database, hosting and any third-party accounts (invite engineers as users rather than sharing your password)
- Design files, brand assets and content
- A list of every API key and outside service the app uses
What works and what doesn’t
- Features that work today
- Known bugs and rough edges
- Where you got stuck, and what you already tried
Requirements
- Must-have features for launch, with nice-to-haves listed separately
- Expected number of users at launch and in the first year
- Anything sensitive: payments, health data, children’s data, or users in the UK or EU
Success criteria
- What “launched” means to you
- Target launch date and any fixed deadlines (a demo day, a customer commitment)
- How you will judge whether it is working
The 30-day launch plan
Week 1
Review & plan- Security and production-readiness review of the code
- Fix the critical security gaps: exposed keys, login checks, access rules
- Agree the launch scope and move everything else to a later list
Week 2
Fix the foundations- Move data to a managed database with automatic backups
- Enforce login and access rules on the server
- Add error handling and input validation on the critical flows
Week 3
Production setup- Production hosting, custom domain and HTTPS
- Logging, error tracking and alerts
- Tests for the critical flows, run automatically on every change
Week 4
Launch & learn- Privacy notice and terms in place
- Soft launch to a small group while watching the monitoring
- Fix what breaks, then open it up and keep iterating
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I hand my AI-built app to developers?
Give them a short description of what the app does, access to the code and accounts, an honest list of what works and what does not, the must-haves for launch, and how you will judge success. The handoff spec below covers each of these, so engineers can start on the work instead of spending the first week asking questions.
How long does it take to launch an AI-built prototype?
A small, focused app can often reach a careful first launch in about four weeks: one to review and fix critical gaps, one on the foundations, one on production setup and one to launch and learn. Apps with payments, several integrations or code that needs restructuring take longer; our full prototype to production engagements usually run 6–16 weeks.
What if my app isn’t ready to hand over yet?
That is normal. Run the production-readiness scorecard to see the gaps, then fill in the handoff spec with what you have. Engineers can work from an untidy starting point; what slows them down is missing access and unclear requirements.
Want engineers to take it from here?
Send the completed spec, or just the app and repo. We reply within one business day, and you can start with a one-week trial before committing to the full launch.
